Beauty? What is That?

Beauty? What is that? Well beauty can be defined as so many different things, it all just depends on the person. The dictionary defines beauty as “the quality in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind.” That sounds was really deep. And up until this very moment I never really sat and thought about a definition for beauty. Just like everything else in life, you never really sit and think about what something means until you sit down and are forced to think about it. In all reality I always just thought beauty was something a person found really pretty or attractive. But really any person, place, animal, or thing can be considered beautiful. So I sat down and tried to come up with my own definition of beauty compared to what society may see as beautiful.
Seeing as how beauty can be defined as almost anything in the entire world, coming up with my own definition was actually pretty tricky. I feel like it would take me a whole eight page paper or more to try and define beauty. But I’m not going to do that, so I just found a picture that might show my definition and a picture that shows society’s definition.

(My sister on her prom day)

                                                               (A runway picture I found)

Because beauty can be defined as anything, I decided  to go with the beauty of people. To be more specific, their outer beauty. Someone with a great sense of outer beauty, to me, looks healthy and confident in their own skin. They don’t care what other people feel they should look like. And I feel society basically defines outer beauty as thin. You know just small everything (hips, waist, bust,etc..) We see this mostly with runway models today. In my opinion, some of those models look a little scary and sick. They just look like they need to eat something.
But as I said before beauty can be anything you want it to be. So if you think that size 000 model is beautiful, then who am I to judge you. Beauty is all about your own FLAIR. Your own style. Nobody can determine for  you what you think is beautiful.

Quite Similar: 18th Century vs. 21st Century

                                     (miss-kseniya.blogspot.com)

                                     (seattlepi.com)

Usually I would make a post ranting about how I don’t like people to tell me what to wear or when to wear it, or how dressing comfortable is so much better. But this I decided to do something that’s going to be a little different. You see recently in my Dress History class we’ve been learning about how women dressed back in the 18th century and certain things that influenced them to dress that way. And to be honest its really no different than the reason women in the 21st century dress the way they do.
For example, back in the 18th century slim (ex. Small waistline) was in. So in order to make themselves achieve this slim look, smaller than normal, they wore corsets. And considering how unnaturally small their wait line looked, it had to be terribly uncomfortable to wear corsets. Why did they do this though? Well most influence came from the royal court and that’s the style they were wearing. But they also did it to keep up with the fashion of the time.
Sooo that just made me think about how today, so many women still strive for this slim look. So many women wear body shapers and spanx (helps make body curves look smoother/sucks everything in)to get that look. Why? Well just like back in the 18th century, people are influenced by what they see. Today most women see the models with the tiny waist and think, “I must look like that.” Only because society has portrayed that as beautiful, and because its normal for people to want what they can’t/don’t have.
Well you know what I think about all this? I just say just be you. If you feel the need to wear body shapers or whatever  to make yourself feel beautiful, then go right ahead. There will come a time wear you’ll develop your own definition of beauty. But that’s another rant for a different blog post. Just remember whatever you wear or however you decide to look, give it your own FLAIR and you can’t  go wrong.

Winter Is Coming!!!

Colder temperatures are approaching quickly, it’ll be snow on the ground before we know it. The first thing most people (most college students) may run for are their sweat shirts and sweat pants. Most do only out of comfort, and other just doesn’t know what to else to wear. Well here are a few things to consider.
1.       While choosing your outfit go for comfort first. Because remember you’ll most likely be wearing a coat and you don’t want to be too hot or too cold. Dressing in layers usually helps.
2.       After comfort then you should think about how nice you’re trying to look that day. Think about if you’re going for “I just don’t care” look or the look that shows off your style the most.
3.       Last but not least shoes. Whatever shoes you wear just make sure they are keeping your feet warm and comfortable. There’s nothing worse than feeling like your toes are about to fall off.
In the end whatever you wear make sure it fits you and your style. Don’t try and copy someone else’s style, be unique. Because what look good on one person may not look so good on someone else.  Always remember to just give it your on FLAIR and you just can’t go wrong. Oh yeah and keep warm!!

White? After Labor Day?

So the other day I was having a conversation with my mother and sister about why you shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day, because honestly it didn’t quite make sense to me. Most people should know about this fashion rule about not wearing white after Labor Day. So as confused as I was I decided to do a little research. I found out that the only reason this particular rule exist is, because white is more of a Spring/Summer color rather than a Fall/Winter color. I guess that makes sense.
So for all those people who are like me and don’t like being told when you can and can’t wear a certain color, I’m going to give you a few things you should consider if or when decide to wear white this Fall/Winter.

1.       Instead of wearing the bright spring/summer white, switch to a winter white. This is probably a shade darker than a regular white.
2.       Wear your white with layers. (EX. Blue top with a white camisole)
3.       Avoid wear white shoes.
To be honest it’s really up to you as to how you wear your “winter” white. Just make sure you don’t necessarily decide to wear ALL white. Remember how ever you decide to wear white, give it your own FLAIR and you can’t go wrong.

My Definition of Fashion!

When you look up fashion in the dictionary it’s defined as “any [predominant] custom or style of dress.” Well I would say it’s anything you can wear confidently and rock it. Even though there are many people who will that just anything can’t be fashionable. Well who cares what they think. To be honest what you are wearing at this very moment can be considered fashionable. Yes, even if you are sitting in your pajamas right now, what you are wearing can be very fashionable. Just because one person says it can’t be a fashion doesn't mean you should just write that off.

You should let others force their opinion on you. Uniqueness, creativity, and originality are some of the things that make fashion so wonderful. Just be you. Have confidence and rock whatever wear. Give it your own FLAIR, and you can’t go wrong.
